You can choose more than one

Your adventure begins in La Paz, Mexico. A taxi can take you to the Baja Expeditions warehouse where you will pick up your snorkeling gear and take a boat ride to the Espiritu Santo Island Eco-Camp. Days at camp are spent partaking in various activities and adventures and the duration of your stay is flexible to your schedule, with a minimum of at least 2 nights stay. Depending on the season, the outfitter may have day-excursions planned to areas like Los Islotes sea lion rookery or San Ignacio Lagoon for whale watching. Participation is always your choice. On your last day at camp, you will take a boat ride back to La Paz, leaving just after lunch in the mid-afternoon. From here you can arrange a taxi to take you to the airport for departure or to a hotel for an extended stay in La Paz.

Beginnings

The Espiritu Santo Eco-Camp expedition begins in La Paz, Mexico, where you can take a taxi to the outfitter’s warehouse to pick up your snorkeling gear the day before your trip begins. The following morning after a boat ride to Espiritu Santo Island, you will begin your adventure.

Endings

On your final day at the Espiritu Santo Eco-Camp, you will have the morning to kayak, swim, hike, or snorkel before your departure following lunch. You will return to La Paz, Mexico by boat where you can stay another evening or fly home.

Price Includes

Comfy single or double platform beds, bedding, and safari style tents. Snorkel gear and single/double kayaks. All meals in camp beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with lunch on the last day of your expedition. Snorkel gear, double kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and dive equipment for use while in camp are also included.

Weather & Water Temperature

A year-round adventure season means temperatures are variable, but typically Baja has mild weather. February – April bring temperatures in the high 60’s°F with water temperatures in the same range. May – July warm up with temperatures ranging between mid-70 to low 80s and water temperatures ranging from 65°F – 72°F as the summer progresses. August – October are the warmest months in Baja with temperatures ranging between 90°F-100°F and water temperatures around 84°F. As the fall and winter months move in, November – January temperatures will drop back down in the low 70’s with water temperatures ranging between 68°F – 77°F.

The Sea of Cortez

Abundant wildlife, natural wonders, and warm clear waters make the Sea of Cortez one of the best ecotourism destinations. Dubbed “The World’s Aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau, these waters are home to over 900 species of fish and nearly 32 types of marine mammals that gather to mate and feed in the warm waters of this oceanic paradise. Biologically speaking, the Sea of Cortez is the richest body of water on our entire planet, making it a must-see for anyone who loves the ocean.

Group Size

The basecamp that your adventure trips launch from will accommodate up to 16 guests. The intimate group size guarantees that your camp experience will be relaxing and each person will have access to great guided trips and expert instruction.

Camp Life

The outfitter provides single and double raised platform beds, comfortable bedding and large spacious canvas-sided tents for ultimate camp comfort. There is no running water, but a warm solar heated shower facility is provided and a full camp kitchen.

Meals

Meals are prepared daily by the camp chef. A tantalizing mix of local ingredients and Mexican flair combine to make delicious meals such as freshly caught fish prepared Veracruz style and traditional Mexican dinner of Carne Asada. Plenty of cold refreshments and snacks are offered throughout the day, as well as some alcoholic beverages. Our outfitter is able to accommodate most special dietary requirements.

Timing is Everything

The marine life in the Sea of Cortez is abundant and ever-changing. February through April bring visiting grey, fin, humpback, Brydes’ and orca whales, dolphins, mobula rays, and thousands of resident and migratory birds. May through July bring whale sharks, pilot, humpback, and sperm whales as well as the annual butterfly migration and an abundance of birds. August through October offer great water visibility perfect for snorkeling and diving with sperm whales, juvenile sea lions, and giant squid. November through January are great for whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, and snorkeling with sea lions.

Divers

If you’re interested in doing some scuba diving at the Eco-Camp, please be aware that you must be certified prior to your trip. The outfitter does not provide in-house certification, but can accommodate experienced divers very easily.
