The Sea of Cortez
Abundant wildlife, natural wonders, and warm clear waters make the Sea of Cortez one of the best ecotourism destinations. Dubbed “The World’s Aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau, these waters are home to over 900 species of fish and nearly 32 types of marine mammals that gather to mate and feed in the warm waters of this oceanic paradise. Biologically speaking, the Sea of Cortez is the richest body of water on our entire planet, making it a must-see for anyone who loves the ocean.
Expeditions on El Mechudo will accommodate up to 10 guests. There are three guest cabins on-board, and one cabin reserved for crew members.
El Mechudo is an award-winning catamaran, designed by Robertson and Caine, one of the world’s leading charter boat builders. This model has four double cabins, each with their own private head (toilet) and shower. The boat has a large platform ideal for divers with steps down for easy water access. It is also equipped with electronics and high powered engines, giving great performance and reliability under power as well as sail. As a sailing boat, the average speed under power is about 8 knots, always sailing smooth and steady.
Meals are prepared daily by the El Mechudo chef. A tantalizing mix of local ingredients and Mexican flair combine to make delicious meals such as freshly caught fish prepared Veracruz style and traditional Mexican dinner of Carne Asada. There is a watermaker on board that provides fresh drinking water and plenty of cold refreshments and snacks are offered throughout the day. Our outfitter is able to accommodate most special dietary requirements.
