Are Federal Cuts Affecting Whitewater Rafting Trips?
Here’s What You Need to Know
We understand that recent news about federal workforce reductions may raise questions about outdoor recreation on public lands. However, we want to reassure our guests that all of our whitewater rafting trips are operating as planned.
Why You Don’t Need to Worry
- Permits Are Already Secured – Our partner outfitters have secured permits for the 2025 season through the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). These contracts are in place well in advance and remain valid regardless of federal staffing changes.
- National Park Service Contracts Are Long-Term – Outfitters operating in National Parks run under long-term contracts, typically lasting 10 years. This means that trips in places like the Grand Canyon and other national parks do not have their permits affected by short-term government staffing changes.
- Staffing Adjustments Are Being Made – In the Grand Canyon, for example, temporary employees are being hired to ensure proper permit compliance at launch sites. Outfitters hope to see similar solutions applied to other multi-day rivers in the West. That said, even if launch sites are not staffed, trips will still be able to proceed as planned.
- Trips Are Running as Usual – We’re in close communication with our partner outfitters, and none have reported disruptions due to federal cutbacks.
